Huawei’s OS Kernel Lab for the development of its proprietary OS began recruiting in 2016 for its branches in China, the US, Canada, and Germany. It was looking to hire full-time engineers, system architects, researchers, and interns to develop a “next-generation OS” integrating up-and-coming technologies including 5G, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), autonomous vehicles (AV) and more, according to job listings posted by Huawei’s software institute on its official WeChat subscription account.

A couple of days back, Huawei confirmed that they are aiming for a fall release of their own OS which should work on both smartphones and laptops. At this moment, the US government has lifted the ban temporarily allowing Huawei to put their affairs in order and prepare to quit the market.

New information revealed that Huawei’s OS is based on Linux and Hongmeng name is related to Chinese mythology. That fits in the lineup of names like processor series “Kirin” which is also derived from the name of a mythical chimerical creature ‘Qilin’.
